In the event I opted for stupid but it didn’t turn out to be such a bad decision. The evening started with an excellent fish curry before we moved on to a bar with a pool table. The heavens opened at midnight and there we stayed until I gave up several hours later but at least appropriately shod for the occasion! After this it effectively rained solidly for the next two days and I stayed close to base for much of the time. So, whilst it was a pleasant change to stay somewhere a little longer than usual it felt very much as if I was simply marking time.
The hotel was located on the edge of town although this is a concept which has little meaning given that the whole place was barely 500 metres square.
It had pleasant gardens that would have offered some respite from the sun were any available. The dominant mode of transport in the place was bicycle and these seemed capable of carrying up to three persons. The main street and along the sea front offered a typical range of beach related items, whilst there were plenty of cafés and restaurants. Street vendors sold tasty and cheap snacks, coconuts, beachwear, jewellery, textiles, wooden ornaments and tee shirts.
I’ve already noted that more people seem to be gainfully occupied in Costa Rica but this was not quite so evident here.
Perhaps it’s the Caribbean influence. Ever since southern Mexico I’ve seen plenty of vultures but here they even parade the streets.
Perhaps they have the same function as dogs elsewhere. Here is something I have no explanation for.
I didn’t even know that worms could bite.
